Today was a long travel day. I rushed this morning to get everything done that I wanted to. I always like to clean the floor and do the laundry before I leave. I also wanted to help Alex with finishing up his eagle project.
Bret and I got on the road. I used my Southwest App and found that my flight was running late. Then I got my notification text from Southwest letting me know my flight was late. Scheduled to leave at 1:25 and was going to be leaving at 2:50.
That wasn't the end of the world. But then, I realized that I had a connecting flight in Houston and I was probably going to miss it.
At the gate checking my two bags, (which by the way - SWA has no fee for checking bags) the agent told me that Southwest was going to probably put me up in a hotel as I was going to miss my connection. I thought well I can book my own hotel room rather than taking my chances staying in something I have no control over. I called and booked myself at the Holiday Inn close to Hobby Airport.
Before the agent took my bags, I thought I better take out my toothbrush, some clean underwear and something new to wear tomorrow. If I don't make my flight, I won't have access to my bags. So I pull everything out in front of everyone. Just imagine for me please! The agent was trying to make small talk with me about how I should help him with hotel rooms and he could help me with flights. He gave me his email address.
So I have an easy flight from Phoenix to Houston. As a side note...My seat neighbor was looking at houses in Salt Lake and on his way back to Houston. His wife just completed her fellowship and she is going to be working as a pediatric cardiologist at Children's in SLC. He found a house and was excited about the move.
I get to Houston and I find out that they are holding the flight for us. There were 3 of us getting on that flight. So they inconvenienced a flight full of people (well, it wasn't full) for about an hour while waiting for us. But I was grateful. Thank you Southwest.

I canceled my hotel reservation.
It is nice to be where I'm supposed to be tonight.

I made a personal goal in regards to church attendance this year. Our church leaders reminded us how important it is to partake in the sacrament weekly. I have tried hard this year as I schedule my travel to ensure that I can go to church. Some weeks, it is a struggle for me to spend time with my family, get my job done, and attend church. When I need to be across the US for a Monday meeting, it usually means travel on Sunday. If I'm going to attend church on Sunday, I often don't have an option for a flight after church. If I leave on Saturday (like today), it means one less day for family time.
Not meaning to whine or go on and on....
At the end of the day, I'm going to sacrament meeting tomorrow in Clinton Mississippi. How about that!
