My sleep gear friend and I chit chatted for just a minute before the end of our flight.

He had gotten out his reading glasses and a small copy of the Book of Mormon.
Knowing that he was a member of the church, I had asked him if he lived in Houston. I thought he might know someone that I know.

I found out that he was traveling from his home city of Albuquerque to Birmingham. He opted to get a voucher and take the next flight due to a Southwest overbooking. So he was flying from Albuquerque to Phoenix to Houston and then onto Birmingham in the morning.

The only thing I know about the church and the city of Albuquerque was that my Grandpa Everett had helped build one of the chapels back in the late 40's or early 50's. When I told him that, he said that the church has really grown in Albuquerque and they now have three stakes (A group of congregations or wards, generally about three thousand to five thousand members in five to ten congregations).

  1. Daddy was the Branch President when they split our branch. The chapel was across the street from Roosevelt Park. The church sold it when it became a scary neighborhood. Anyway, yea, it has grown and we were a part of it.
