One of my first real jobs (I really had many that I gave this title to) was working at a mostly vegetarian restaurant called the Hobbit Hole.

I babysat for Mary Ellen and knew that she had a restaurant with her husband.
When I realized that I wanted to have a car when I turned 16, and I realized that I needed to show my dad that I could raise funds, I called Mary Ellen to see if I could work at the restaurant. She just happened to need someone, as her hostess had just quit.
I remember it was Labor Day Weekend.
I remember laying on my mom's office floor and making notes about what I needed to do and where the restaurant was located.
I'm grateful that Mom drove me every day that I worked which was no small feat.
I'm grateful to Mary Ellen for giving me the job.

I know that it sounds funny to say that I worked at a vegetarian restaurant, when I hate vegetables.
I think this is the first place I ever had anything labeled "Jamaican Jerk". I also learned to love guacamole from working here. AND they have the most amazing smoothies, made with fresh fruit, honey and ice. YUM!

Rod and I went to eat here last week. We have been trying to go for months and it has just never worked. Who shows up to wait on us? Mary Ellen. What a sweetheart. Her kids are in college. Crazy.
Food was great as always.
Location has changed - it is now down the street off of Richmond - it used to be off of Shepherd.
