Had a nice visit with Mr Ricky tonight. We had a yummy seafood dinner at Denis' Seafood House and then went to 1149 to stroll down memory lane.
Who is Mr Ricky?
Ricky and Diana Rollo moved in just a few houses away from my childhood home - they were already friends of my parents and grandparents and were part of our church. Shortly after they moved in, Diana was pregnant with their first child.... Virginia B Rollo. Virginia was born when I was 12. I spent almost every day of her first two and a half years of life watching her and taking care of her. Diana and Ricky would go out on dates and I would babysit. Diana would go to work and I would babysit. Diana would run errands and I would babysit.
I was called "na-na" and Ricky would affectionately refer to me as "na-na head"
My nieces have always called me "na-na Karen" as a result of Virginia calling me na-na so many years ago.
I got paid $1.50/hr. Although at some point, I remember having the courage to ask for a raise and then received $2/hr.
When we moved from Houston in 1993, Diana and Ricky bought our house and have had it since then. They are now preparing to sell it. There are things - food storage, furniture, curtains, doorbells, that have been in that house since before I was born.
Diana and Ricky played a part in my "growing up". They helped me to become who I am today.
