On my flight today from Phoenix, I met an interesting woman. I first noticed her husband getting a breakfast sandwich. Really cute old man. Then I saw the two of them together. Then I saw him leave again to get another breakfast sandwich for her. I saw the little heels that she was wearing and thought that was so cute. She is probably in her mid 70's. I thought to myself about how many women I know that are that age still wearing heels, especially when they travel.

Then when I was getting in line to board, she was standing by where I needed to be but didn't look like she really knew what she was doing. So, I asked her if she needed help. Indeed, she said she didn't know what to do. She laughed and said every time they learn what to do at the airport, the rules change. I explained to her how Southwest boards and where she needed to be. Her husband wasn't with her - I asked her where the cute man was that was with her - he was where they were supposed to be - I don't know how they got separated anyway.
She stayed by me for a bit longer and we chit chatted. She lives in Mesa 6 months of the year and Logan Utah the other 6 months. They used to winter in St George but their only son was retiring to Mesa and talked them into coming down to "The Valley of the Sun". 2 months after her son moved to Mesa, he and his wife got called to be the Mission President of Houston. She and her husband hadn't seen them for 18 months so they were traveling to Houston to visit them.
I told her about growing up in Houston and how my parents actually met in the Gulf States Mission, which used to encompass the whole state of Texas and bordering states. (Just to clarify, my parents were not even close to being romantically involved on their mission).
She was a sweet woman and it was fun to chat with her for a minute.

I hope that she and her husband have a great week in Houston.
