This week I was in a small town located outside of Indianapolis - Crawfordsville.

This town is known because it is home to Wabash College

It is a beautiful Liberal Arts college that is only for MEN.

Here is my story (it isn't really funny - but it did strike me as worth repeating).

I went and met with the Director of the Alumni affairs. His business card had his name and then '71 - which I concluded was the year that he graduated. I had just visited the career services office and there was a woman working in that office. I asked my new friend what the women put on their business cards since they obviously didn't graduate from Wabash. He said ....
"Well, actually, we have two women who have graduated from our school."
I asked how that happened.
His answer was something that hadn't crossed my mind....
"They were men when they went to the school."

Men worth noting that are alumni include:

  1. That answer would not have crossed my mind either.

Karen, I did not bring my genealogy research files with me. That is not on my project list for this year, but my current problem is finding the parents of Lorenzo Dow Wade. Doing a Census search says that a probable father is William Wade who was in Wayne County Indiana (Crawfordsville) in the 1820 census.(If my memory is correct) If I had my files with me I would send you on errands to check things out. If you have time call the Historical Society and ask if they have an early pioneers list which includes William or Hyrum Wade. If you don't have time, that is one of the things I will do next year. Love You. Nancy
